
Gabapentin is a anti-epileptic drug, also called an anticonvulsant. It affects chemicals and nerves in the body that are involved in the cause of seizures and some types of pain. It is used in adults to treat neuropathic pain (nerve pain) caused by herpes virus or shingles (herpes zoster).
Gralise brand of Gabapentin is for the management of neuropathic pain only.
The Horizant brand of Gabapentin, in addition to treating neuropathic pain, is also used to treat restless legs syndrome (RLS).
Neurontin brand is used to treat seizures in adults and children at least three years old, in addition to neuropathic pain.
Gralise brand and Horizant brand should be taken with food.
Neurontin brand can be taken with or without food, but should be taken with water. Gabapentin should be taken exactly according to your doctor’s instructions and if any side effects appear, discontinue and talk to your doctor immediately.
