
Simvastatin belongs to a group of drugs known as “statins”. It is used with a proper diet to help lower “bad” cholesterol and fats such as (LDL, triglycerides) and raise “good” cholesterol in the blood. It works by reducing the amount of cholesterol made by the liver. Simvastatin is also used to lower the risk of stroke, heart attack and other heart complications in people with diabetes, coronary heart disease or other risk factors.
This medication is used in adults and children who are at least 10 years old. Do not use it if you are pregnant. Avoid eating grapefruit or drinking grapefruit juice while using this medication unless your doctor instructs you otherwise. More common side effects are eczema, dizziness, fainting and fast or irregular heartbeat.
