Econazole is an azole antifungal that works by preventing the growth of fungus.
Econazole nitrate (for the skin) is used to treat jock itch (tinea cruris), ringworm (tinea corporis) and athlete’s foot (tinea pedis). It can also be used to treat tinea versicolor (a fungus that discolors the skin).
Side effects that may occur are rash, burning, irritation, stinging or redness at the application site.
