Miconazole is an azole antifungal that works by preventing the growth of fungus. Miconazole is used to treat skin infections such as ringworm, jock itch, athlete’s foot, and other skin infections. This medication is used to treat vaginal yeast infections by reducing vaginal burning, itching and discharge. Also miconazole is used to treat a skin condition known as pityriasis (tinea versicolor), a fungal infection that causes lightening or darkening of the skin of the legs, arms, chest, or neck.
Side effects can include burning, rash, irritation, redness, and swelling.
