Let’s begin with what is cancer. Cancer is the uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells in the body. Old cells do not die and grow out of control, forming new abnormal cells. These extra cells may form a mass of tissue called tumor. Cancer may form anywhere in the body in both men and women.
Basically there are five categories of cancer:
1 – Central nervous system cancers that develop in the brain and spinal cord.
2 – Lymphomas that start in the immune system.
3 – Leukemia that begins in the blood and bone marrow.
4 – Sarcomas that develop in the bone, fat, muscle or other connecting tissues.
5 – Carcinomas that begin in the skin or tissues that line internal organs.
Cancer treatment options depend on the type of cancer, its stage, if the cancer has spread and your general health.
Three main treatments are surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy.
